Shawn Mitchell is a radio talk show host that speaks truth to power. Inspired by his love for debate, Shawn Mitchell goes beyond the mainstream press and challenges listeners to take back their communities, educational system, and government. Currently, he’s a Berkeley County Democratic Party Executive Committeeman, who’s a strong supporter of President Barack Obama. He’s constantly working towards economic empowerment within the Black Community and continues the fight for economic justice with Black Business Owners/Managers (BBOM). Mitchell is a member of Save Darfur Coalition, and protested the War in Iraq as well as the Jena Six Rally in Jena Louisiana.

He marched on the Department of Justice, canvassed for Al Gore in 2000 and attended the Million Man March. Shawn Mitchell’s political views and community activism started at an early age. He was reared by his grandparents in Chicago and traveled the world early on with his mother who served 20 years in the U.S. Army. Mitchell is from a culture of community activism. His grandparents escaped the "Jim Crow South" during the 1940's for a better life, to start a family and join the factories during World War II. His politically active grandparents worked to get Harold Washington elected Mayor of Chicago in 1983 which exposed Mitchell to community activism and civic duty. As a young man growing up in Chicago, he was a Boy Scout, actively involved in church, lead voter registration drives, fed the homeless and protested Apartheid in South Africa.

He was an avid reader of hero’s such as Fredrick Douglass, Kuame Ture, W.E.B. Dubois, Marcus Garvey, Booker T. Washington, Mary McLeod-Bethune, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Malcolm X, Thurgood Marshall and many others. Shawn Mitchell’s career in radio broadcasting started while he attended Grambling State University where he developed his love for radio. He volunteered at KGRM Radio Station 91.5 FM and soon became the afternoon personality and play-by-play/commentator for Grambling State University's Sports Network. Later he became an On-Air Personality for KRVV Radio in Monroe, Louisiana and then started his own marketing company. Mitchell later returned home to Chicago where he became a Publicist for several lawyers and media clients before joining the marketing department at Red Distribution/Sony Music.

While at Sony he worked side by side with the labels artists to market and promote their records and concerts. Shawn returned to Radio as an On-Air Personality and consultant with WPAL-FM in Charleston, South Carolina. Currently, he’s “The Voice That Speaks Truth To Power” with his new talk show "Shawn Mitchell Show” heard on Star 99.7 FM in Charleston, SC or worldwide www.star997.com . As a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Shawn works with members to promote community activism, education, and charity for others. He’s a husband and father and is here to empower, inform, and motivate listeners to "Speak Up!"
