Kanye West leaked a new track from his upcoming album yesterday. Check out our Facebook to hear it and see what you think.
I think it's pretty solid. He also said a remix for "Power" featuring Jay-Z is going to leak on Friday. 'Ye also said he thinks Nicki Minaj has the potential to be the number two rapper in the game(behind Eminem). Strong words...he added that Nicki will be featured on a track on the new album, due out in November.

He is releasing a book in November called "Decoded". It will be a breakdown of his lyrics as well as a memoir. Should be an interesting read. Between this, Kanye's album and Nicki's debut all due in November, the Christmas wish list is already filling up!

Bun B's new album, "Trill O.G.", got 5 mics in the new Source. It is the first album to get the honor in five years. If you were like me, you had a subsription to the Source growing up. As soon as the new issue would show up in my mailbox, I would flip to the back to see if anyone got 5 mics. I still remember getting angry when some of my favorite albums didn't receive the honor. The first OutKast album got 4 1/2 mics. Redman's first album got 4 mics. In retrospect, these albums were classics. On the other hand, it made the 5 mics distinction a real honor in hip-hop. I haven't heard the Bun B front to back yet, but I will have to pick it up. Have you heard it? Does it deserve the title of "hip-hop classic"? Let me know.

So the big rumor over the weekend was that T.I. and Tiny were in Hawaii to get married. It looks like that was only half true. DJ Drama said in an interview yesterday that Tip was indeed in Hawaii, but it wasn't to tie the knot. He was there to work on a track with Kanye for his new album, "Good Ass Job"! The album is still scheduled to drop in September. Meanwhile, it now looks like T.I. and Tiny will make it official this weekend in Miami...unless he's going there to work with Rick Ross or something.
Hey, i'll be out at Cainhoy Middle School this Thursday from 3-5 to help raise school supplies with Hoopsters Heaven...come on out and try to win the shootout for a 47-inch TV! Just to warn you, i've been working on my jumper...bring your A game. Balllllinnnnn!

There were a lot of rumors that Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz were going to get married this weekend...not so, according to Swizz. He told OK magazine that it will happen in the near future though...or this is all just a front to keep the cameras away and it IS happening this weekend. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

A quick sales update...early figures are saying Rick Ross is going to move between 170-180 thousand copies of his new album, "Teflon Don". Will that be enough to knock Eminem out of the top spot? Experts say that Em is in the lead right now, but it will be close. We'll know early next week who reigns supreme on the charts.

Some great news for your Friday on a couple of fronts...first off, the long-awaited Big Boi album drops this Tuesday! Be sure to cop that...he had some label issues and is now with Def Jam. Looking forward to it.
Secondly, ?uestlove says that he is forming a new supergroup with Amy Winehouse and Raphael Saadiq. Wooooooow! He said that Amy is having visa issues, so recording hasn't started yet. All three are geniuses...as long as Amy can stay somewhat sober for a minute, the album should be amazing.

Lakers-Celtics tonight...i'm pulling for Boston, but I think the Lake Show finds a way to pull it out. Perkins being out for Boston will hurt them on the boards.
We're still patiently waiting for Dr. Dre to release his "Detox" album. Who knows when we'll actually hear the finished product. We've been waiting for years, so what's a few more months. An unfinished track with Dre and Jay-Z called "Under Pressure" has leaked online. Dre also did a track with T.I. and Nas that made its way onto the web. With Drake's CD in stores this week, "Detox" could be that next event record that has people lining up to get it at midnight of the release date.
Finally, I copped some new kicks this week. I've been a sneakerhead for years and I found these re-released Jordan 1's on ebay. I'm bringing velcro back. What it do.

Welcome to your Hump Day...finally got some much-needed rain yesterday. The weekend is supposed to be a little cooler...88 degrees would feel like springtime at this point.
Today would have been Tupac Shakur's 39th birthday. Or maybe it IS his birthday, if you think he's chillin' down in Mexico. ANYway, check out the poll on the front page and weigh in-who do you think is the greatest rapper of all-time? It is a tough one...I was always a "Biggie over Tupac" guy. Jay-Z has to be in the conversation after his last album. Nas might not have the consistent career, but he did do "Illmatic". We also included Lil' Wayne in the discussion...at first thought, you are probably thinking that he shouldn't be considered an all-time great. However, you should remember that he has been in the game for over a decade at this point. Rakim should also get some love, but we only had five slots. Let your voice be heard!

As for me, I tried to stay inside as much as possible...it was just too hot. I did manage to run in the ALS Hope 5K race on the beach at Isle of Palms. Even on the beach, it was blazin...at least there was a little breeze to work with out there. I didn't get around to catching the A-Team...gonna get that done sometime this week. Anybody see it?
The Drake album "Thank Me Later" officially goes on sale tomorrow, and the industry is wondering if he can sell a million in the first week. That would be an amazing number in today's age of itunes and illegal downloads. Most people are predicting around 400,000 sold...again, that would be huge. It's always good for hip-hop when an "event" record comes out-one that everyone is talking about. They don't come around very often...let me know what you think about it.

Kelly Rowland is commenting about the rumors of a possible Destiny's Child reunion.
She told MTV that she doesn't think it will happen in the near future and she is happy doing her own music. Matthew Knowles said earlier this week that it won't happen. Of course, there's not much in it for Beyonce...I think she's doing okay on her own.
Finally, a couple of tracks i'm listening to this weekend...the new Kanye single, "Power", is a welcome return for 'Ye. The CD should be out in September. I'm also feeling the new Drake with Jay-Z, "Light Up"(the song Weezy added a verse to over the phone from Rikers). The Drake album hits stores next week...fight the urge to download the leak and support good hip-hop music!

So I get into work this morning...and LJ(one of our sales reps) asks me if I had heard about Barack Obama being in the video for "Whoomp, There It Is" in 1993. Um...what? It is a rumor that is making the rounds on Facebook. So I had to check out the video for myself(for the first time in 15 years) and see what's up. See for yourself...keep em eye out for Obama(or a guy who looks just like him) at the 1:01 mark. Either way, it's funny.

One of my favorite nights of the year went down last night...the annual vh1 "Hip-Hop Honors" show gave some love to the Dirty South. While they didn't give any time to the Carolinas or even Memphis, I thought they did a good job in paying tribute to a lot of the pioneers of the game. Watching the 2 Live Crew segment, I felt like I was in a time warp. It is amazing to think that only 20 years ago, the government was trying to censor rap music. Being from Atlanta, I really enjoyed the stories surrounding the beginnings or So So Def and Organized Noize. Having worked with several of the honorees over the years, it was great to see them in their element(Lil' Jon on the turntables!). It felt more like a party than in past years, which in a lot of ways sums up southern hip-hop music. If you missed it, i'm sure vh1 will rerun it a bunch of times...be sure to catch it at some point.

I don't really get into the "Real Housewives" shows, with one exception..."The Real Housewives of Atlanta" is that good good. While we wait for the new season to come on, there are all types of rumors about the ladies flying around. One such rumor that made its way around the web was that NeNe and her husband Greg were getting a divorce.
I always thought he looked like Dominique Wilkins' uncle. ANYway, it looks like the divorce is going down...and guess who is asking for alimony? HE is! He is saying that it cost him 300 thousand dollars to make NeNe a housewife for the show...and he wants his money back! Thoughts?

Outside of work, i've been keeping my eye on a couple of things. The NBA playoffs are in effect...Phoenix is giving the Lake Show fits! Orlando is on the ropes, we'll see how it all shakes out. Besides that, i've been reading the new Michael Eric Dyson book, "Born To, Use Mics".
It just dropped in paperback...it takes a unique look at the classic Nas album, "Illmatic". Can you believe that it's been over 15 years since it came out? Crazy...I still remember picking it up on cassette(!) the day it came out. It still resonates. An interesting read...any time I mess with Michael Eric Dyson, I feel like I learn something.
